State Judge Suspends Part of Maryland State Delta-8 Prohibition - CBD Retailers Celebrate?
Maryland Hemp Coalition Presses Court to Save Delta-8 While State Officials Resist
Earlier this year, Maryland Regulators sought to enforce a poorly thought-out portion of the Cannabis Reform Act (CRA) that now allows for recreational sales, among other rights to cannabis users and medical patients.
Judge Brett R. Wilson recently suspended enforcement of a splinter of the CRA that ultimately forced CBD shops to stop selling products with high levels of THC found in them.
* Maryland Hemp Coalition Enters the Chat*
Hemp and CBD retailers found their investments in jeopardy, and any good industry interest group does these days - they sued Maryland Regulators to check themselves before they break the CANNABIS MONEY TRAIN on track to spill into the state’s excise tax revenues.
From here, the state government attorneys will appeal and try several ways to get the case dismissed. But this will not likely prevent opening the Cannabis Can of Worms in the next legislative session.
The ruling by Judge Wilson will allow hemp retailers who were put out of business to operate again. Still, the ambiguity in the law will inhibit further growth in the legitimate Cannabis industry. It is rumored state legislature leaders are disappointed with the judge’s decision, and the state has filed intentions to appeal it.
This is disappointing, to say the least, as it is clear how wrongheaded legislators are on this issue. Here, they state their intent to restrain further growth in an industry clearly out of their sphere of influence.
Remember in the past the Comptroller’s office was GUTTED as a petty swipe at internal Annapolis politics. And the new boss is the same as the old boss if you watch the “progress” of this “Blue” state. I argue we can expect nothing but incompetence and corruption to infect this new and promising industry if the State Legislators and Regulators get their way and the people lose out.
